American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification with Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) WSI Certification Fact Sheet
WSI Class Prerequisites: Minimum age of 16 years old. Demonstrate proficiency in six strokes: front crawl (freestyle), back crawl (backstroke), elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly - 25 yards per stroke. Tread water for 1 minute.
WSI Certification Requirements: Attend all class sessions (Sat & Sun 8AM-8PM). Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities. Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions in the final written exam.
WSI Certificates Issued: Upon successful course completion, Water Safety Instructor candidates will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificate valid for 2 years, and a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT).

WSI Training Forms
Once you have register online, you must print the WSI Training Forms. Please complete and bring these forms with you to the training.
What to Bring to the WSI Class
Bathing suit and towel, a pen or pencil and paper for notes, WSI Training Forms, Water Safety Instructor Manuals and WSI Syllabus/Study Guide.
Water Safety Instructor Manuals & Guides
You can download a PDF version to your laptop for free or print the text to study for training. Lap tops, iPads and such are allowed to be used during WSI training to reference the manuals as needed.

WSI Program Policies
VISITORS - Only registered participants are allowed on the pool deck or in the class rooms during training. All visitors including parents must wait in the parking lot.
REFUNDS - No refunds will be issued once course fees have been submitted. In the event that a participant is unable to pass the prerequisites or final exams the participant may transfer to a class at a later date (if available) for a transfer fee of $35. If a participant is absent from any scheduled class days or times, the participant will not be offered a transfer or refund of any kind.
TRANSFERS - The class transfer fee is $35 and registered participants are required to notify Safe Swim at least 48 hours prior to the first class date that you are currently registered for in order to be eligible to transfer.
